What equipment is used for mining?
There are many different types of equipment used in mining, depending on the type of mining (open pit or underground) and the type of mineral being mined.
1. Open-pit mining equipment : Usually used to mine mineral deposits on or near the surface. Due to the large working space, large and efficient equipment can be used. Common open-pit mining equipment includes:
Excavation equipment:
Excavator : Used for digging and loading ore or waste rock. There are different sizes and types of excavators, such as backhoe excavators, face shovel excavators, etc.
Bucket wheel excavators are used for large-scale continuous mining of softer mineral deposits such as coal and oil sands.
Draglines are used to remove overburden (stripping) and to mine shallower mineral deposits.
Transport equipment:
Mining trucks are used to transport large quantities of ore or waste rock from the extraction site to a crushing plant, stockpile or waste rock dump. These trucks are often very large and are capable of carrying hundreds of tons of material.
Belt conveyors are used to transport ore or waste rock continuously over long distances, especially in areas with gentle terrain.
Transfer machines are used to stack and recover bulk materials.
Crushing and screening equipment:
Crusher : Used to break mined ore into smaller sizes for easier transportation and subsequent processing.
Screening machine : used to separate the crushed ore according to size.
Drilling and blasting equipment:
Rotary drills and down-the-hole drills : used to drill holes in rock for loading explosives for blasting.
Explosive materials and equipment : used to break hard rock.
Auxiliary equipment:
Bulldozer : Used to level the site, clear roads and pile up materials.
Motor grader : used to maintain and build mine roads.
Sprinkler : Used to suppress dust.
2. Underground mining equipment is used to mine deeply buried mineral deposits, which requires digging lanes and tunnels to enter the ore body. Due to space limitations, underground mining equipment is usually smaller and more flexible than open-pit mining equipment. Common underground mining equipment includes:
Excavation equipment:
Roadheaders : Used for mechanized excavation of roadways and tunnels, especially in coal and soft rock mines.
Drill rigs : Equipped with multiple drill arms, used to drill holes in hard rock for blasting.
Rotary Drilling Rig : Used for drilling large vertical shafts and chute.
Mining Equipment:
Continuous miner : Mainly used in room-and-pillar mining in coal mines, where the coal seam is scraped away by rotating drums.
Longwall shearer : used in longwall mining to cut coal along a long coal wall.
Scraper : Used to load and transport ore or waste rock, with good maneuverability in narrow spaces.
Mining trucks : Used to transport large quantities of ore or waste rock underground.
Scraper conveyor : used to transport coal on the longwall working face.
Belt conveyor : used to transport ore or waste rock over long distances.
Mining production is a complete process that integrates exploration, blasting, crushing, loading, transportation, screening, stockpiling and safety support. Each link requires the coordinated operation of multiple professional equipment to achieve efficient and safe recovery of mineral resources.

We provide many types of wheels for Volvo, Caterpillar, Liebherr, John Deere, Huddig and other well-known brands.
Why do mining vehicles need special wheels ?
Mining vehicles must be equipped with specially designed wheels (including tires and rims) for several reasons:
1. Coping with extreme working conditions
Strong heavy-load capacity: The ore transported by mining vehicles is high in density and heavy in weight, and the wheels need to withstand loads of dozens or even hundreds of tons.
Harsh ground conditions: Mining areas are often accompanied by complex terrain such as sharp rocks, mud, dust, potholes, etc., which place high demands on the wear resistance and puncture resistance of the wheels.
Adaptability to extreme climates: Some mining areas have high temperatures, low temperatures or high humidity, and ordinary tires are prone to aging or failure.
2. Improve security and stability
Special tire structure reinforcement (such as all-steel radial structure) can effectively prevent accidents such as tire blowout and rollover.
Combined with the mining rim design (such as the 5-piece safety lock ring structure), it ensures that the tire does not slip under high loads, thereby improving operational safety.
3. Extend service life and reduce maintenance costs
High-strength material and thickened carcass can withstand long-term operation and repeated rolling.
The special pattern design can reduce tread wear, improve heat dissipation, extend replacement cycle and reduce downtime rate.
4. Adapt to the special needs of the equipment
Different types of mining equipment (such as rigid dump trucks, articulated trucks, LHDs, underground electric shovels, etc.) have unique matching requirements for the load-bearing, size, and structure of the wheels.
Some equipment, such as underground vehicles, require solid tires or low-profile tires to accommodate low alleyways.
5. Improve work efficiency
The grip design of the wheels and the ground (such as deep patterns and widened designs) can improve passability and traction and reduce slipping and stagnation.
It enables mining vehicles to maintain a faster transportation speed under high load, thereby increasing the amount of ore output per unit time.
